“If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable fest.”
— Ernest Hemingway
I have never been to Paris, nor have I ever been a man, young or otherwise. But this quote means something to me. As a child my family moved around a lot and as an adult, to my great chagrin, I have as well. What I have learned from my experiences boils down to the moment of a shared meal in a warm home. Once you have known this joy, you may create and recreate it for yourself wherever you land. It allows you to bloom where you are planted. The art of “nesting” has also been a huge influence in my artwork. I’m forever intrigued by the fragility, intricacy and functionality of nests: a metaphor for home and all that it entails. Creating art was born from a desire to decorate my nest for my three little birdies. It has evolved into a commentary on what I find fulfilling and meaningful in my own life. The chosen color palette and composition reflect my desire for irony, wit, and the unusual versus the quest for perfection. Thank you for looking. Joy is a “moveable feast”.
